The Health Fair is Back

The Office of Health and Wellness and Heroes are at it again! The Maryville University Health Fair is one of the biggest events on campus for students and faculty and staff to attend.

This year, the event will take place April 25, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, on the Commencement Lawn. There will be around 40 vendors, activities and even a farmer’s market.

In these activities, there will be a rock climbing wall, an inflatable obstacle course and a farmer’s marketing with fresh produce for students, faculty and staff to enjoy.

Maryville has a variety of different fitness classes in the evening time such as Zumba or Pound, and some of these classes are going to be giving a teaser at the health fair, so you can learn how the classes will work.

When students, faculty or staff participate in the 20-minute-long teaser class, you will be entered to win in a gift card raffle for $50.

The classes that are going to be provided are going to be on the DUC patio. These include:

· 10:30- Fusion Strength

· 11:15- Balance Training

· 12:00- Zumba

· 12:45- Zumba

· 1:30- Pound

Along with these fitness classes, free massages will be given out and will last around 10 minutes. There will also be free STD checkups for anyone that goes to the fair as well.

“After you visit 5 vendors, you will be able to get free frozen yogurt. There will also be information on mental health and eating disorders, and St. Louis Sleep Medicine will be there to talk to students about sleeping, alcohol and drug use. Also there will be blood pressure screenings and CPR trainings for participants as well,” said Lisa Munch, the Director of Health and Wellness.

Munch believes that attending the fair allows people to walk out with valuable information that they wouldn’t have known before.

“Make sure you try and come for at least 20 minutes of the fair; there is something for everyone and it’s going to benefit you in some way,” said Munch, “There will be a lot of people from the International Institute for students that have trouble with insurance, so they help a lot of people navigate what the best plan is for them. There’s going to be a lot of great programs for students to get more information on anything health-wise. It’s going to be really fun!”
