Saints by Day, Dawgs by Night: Fall Festival Week at a Glance

• Bookmarks: 7

Maryville’s Fall Festival is being held from Oct. 3 to Oct. 7, 2016. The theme this year is Saints by Day and Dawgs by Night. Mr. Maryville will kick off the week, as it is the first opportunity for teams to compete for spirit points. The events are as follows:

Monday: Mr. Maryville at 7 p.m., Auditorium

Tuesday: Girl Code comedian Jeff Dye at 7 p.m., Auditorium

Wednesday: Lip Sync at 7 p.m., Auditorium

Thursday: Tailgate and Barbecue at 7 p.m., Commencement Lawn. This will be the last chance for teams to earn points, and King and Queen nominations will be announced this night.

Friday: Fall Formal in Ballpark Village at the Brewhouse at 7 p.m.

Fall Festival is put on every year by Campus Activities Board, and each day during the week holds a new event. In most of the events, teams of students compete for points. Each team nominates a King and Queen and the nominees from the winning team are crowned during the dance.

This year, the winning team will be given a spirit trophy that will be passed down to next year’s winning team. Brandon Kattenbraker, CAB traditions chair, compared Fall Festival to a homecoming week held at high schools and colleges. “It’s a way to get freshmen involved in new organizations and a way to get organizations involved with each other and grow community,” Kattenbraker said.

Julissa Castillo, sophomore and RA, competed with ABC’s team last year and described the competition as a whole as a lot of fun, but her favorite part was flag football during the tailgate. This year, she’ll be competing with SLAM. “I look forward to learning new sign language for their lip sync performance,” Castillo said.

Students can register to be on a Fall Festival team on CAB’s website. Many different types of teams compete in Fall Festival including sports teams, Usems and clubs. There will be tables inside of Gander selling Formal tickets and they will be sold at the door of Ballpark Village during the dance for 15 dollars a piece.
