New on the Block is Bricktops

Many of you may have driven by Plaza Frontenac in the past month and wondered what all the construction was about.  Bricktops, the new restaurant, was being built for months and just went up on November 29.  The contempary look of the outside of the restaurant is beautiful as well as the nice patio for those warmer days.  However, does the book match the cover?

When I walked into the restaurant I loved the ambiance and thought the inside was just as lovely looking as the outside.  I had very high expectations for Bricktops because I have been to their brother restaurant Houston’s many times before in Florida.  I have always had a good experience there.

My Mom started out with the Caesar salad which was refreshing and good.  The croutons are homemade and you can definitely tell.   For her entrée she ordered the steak and French fries.   The steak had garlic on top and had a nice flavor to it.  The French fries were a thin shoestring fry that go perfect dipped in ranch dressing.  But then again, what fry doesn’t?

I ordered chicken fingers and French fries.  Since everything is homemade I figured they wouldn’t be your average homemade chicken fingers.  The breading was sweet, crunchy, and had a nice flavor to it.  The chicken was extremely soggy; it must have not been fried at a high enough temperature. I had them take the chicken back and had a cheeseburger instead.  It was a good bar burger with an amazing buttery bun.  It had American cheese, mayo, and mustard on it, simple but how a good cheeseburger should be.

They always say, “save the best for last”, and that we did.  We ordered the chocolate chip cookie that came out hot on a skillet with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, covered in caramel sauce.  It was just as good as it sounds.  I think I should have just ordered that as my dinner.

Bricktops was good and I will give them the benefit of the doubt that I was there the first night it was open.  I definitely will be going back but trying the fish tacos and spinach artichoke next time.  I give them an 8 out of 10, with a 14 in the dessert category.
