The Story of Your Life: Facebook Timeline

Those embarrassing photos of you from high school, your embarrassing perm, that ugly outfit, that weirdo you dated: nothing will be held back once the new Facebook Timeline is launched.

Mark Zuckerberg, creator of Facebook, stated, “Timeline, the story of your life, is the best way to express who you are.”

The new design is much like a scrapbook of your life. It will allow users to see what they were doing from the time they first signed up for Facebook, up until their most current updates. You will be able to navigate through the previous months and even years spent on Facebook.

The new timeline is said to make Facebook have a ‘cleaner’ look and make it easier to navigate; which means, Facebook stalkers, this will make your stalking much easier.

The most noticeable change is that you will now have not only a profile picture but now a cover, which is a larger, banner-type of photo at the top of your page. Many people are comparing this feature to MySpace.

Facebook has been in the news a lot lately, first because of the changes to the newsfeed, and then people were panicking because rumors surfaced about Facebook charging people to use, and now the timeline.

“If people were complaining before about the changes on Facebook, wait until they see the timeline. It’s totally different but I think people will really like it once they get used to it,” says student Cassie Robinson.

All the information that will be on the new timeline is the same information that has always been on Facebook, it will just now be easier to find. It’s not all bad though, in my opinion; it lets you relive those wonderful memories with friends and family. It’s like taking a trip down memory lane whenever you want.

You will also now be able to ‘subscribe’ to certain people. This feature allows you to have a more customizable news feed and increased privacy. It is sort of like following someone’s blog, in my opinion.

People are threatening to delete their Facebook accounts with this new change but I’ll believe it when I see it. People don’t like change…at first. Eventually, everyone will get over it, learn to love it, and then be mad when Facebook changes away from the timeline down the road.
